Luanda - The High Court of Luanda on Thursday sentenced Major Pedro Lussaty to 14 years in prison and a 100-day fine for the offenses of transporting currency abroad, embezzlement and money laundering.
In addition to Pedro Lussaty, 46 other defendants were sentenced to terms ranging from three to 14 years in prison.
Judge Andrade da Silva, who read the sentence, said all the crimes against the 47 were proven except for criminal association.
The magistrate said Pedro Lussaty was the protagonist of the scheme and that all the property seized was lost to the benefit of the State.
The Court concluded that as a result of this scheme, approximately 37 billion kwanzas had been misappropriated.
Apart from the prison sentence, the convicts will have to pay one billion kwanzas in compensation to the State and 200,000 kwanzas in court costs.
