Luanda - The Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, visited, this Saturday, in Bujumbura, Burundi, the headquarters of the International Conference for the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL), to learn on the state of technical-administrative, financial and functional organization of this organization.
The head of Angolan diplomacy visited the CIRGL headquarters as chairperson of the Interministerial Committee of the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region.
Currently headed by the Angolan ambassador João Caholo, Executive Secretary of the organization, the CIRGL is made up of 12 member states, Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, Sudan South, Tanzania and Zambia.
At CIRGL headquarters, Téte António met with members of the organization's Secretariat, where he was informed about the evaluation of the rotating Presidency of CIRGL, main results achieved, challenges and solutions, status of financial contributions from member states.
On that occasion, a report was also made on the process of restructuring the institutions of this organization.
The chairperson of the CIRGL Interministerial Committee also found out about the vacancy process of the Executive Secretariat and other existing vacancies in the organization, with emphasis on the positions of director for Peace and Security and for Economic Development and Regional Integration.
The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, currently with an estimated workforce of 70 employees, aims to promote peace, security, stability and sustainable development in the Great Lakes region.
It also aims to resolve conflicts, strengthen democracy, protect human rights, encourage economic growth, promote regional integration and address humanitarian and social issues, in addition to working towards gender equality and the protection of women and children.FMA/ART/ DOJ
