Luanda – Angolan Foreign Affairs minister, Téte António, has just visited the headquarters of the United Nations (UN) in Angola, as part of the celebrations of the organization's 79th anniversary, marked on Thursday, October 24.
He was received by the resident coordinator, Zahira Virani, who showed him around the institution, where he learned how it works.
Téte Antonio, among other areas of the building, visited the office of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) agency, the office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator, the gym and the cafeteria.
The building has ten floors and houses several agencies representing the range of activities of this international organization in Angolan territory.
Afterwards, the minister met with the heads of mission of the various UN agencies.
Currently, the organization is made up of a total of 25 agencies, 13 of which have heads of mission residing in the country.
The UN's strategic priorities in Angola were identified based on the Common Country Analysis (CCA), in the conclusions and recommendations of the assessment of the previous UN Cooperation Framework and the main national development plans.
These priorities reflect the added value of the UN in Angola in its global support for the consolidation of peace, democratic governance, human rights, humanitarian assistance, structural social and economic transformation, environmental sustainability and equality between men and women.
By aligning its efforts with global frameworks and agreements, the UN contributes to Angola's progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) for the period 2024-2028 is based on the guiding vision of an empowered, peaceful, democratic and resilient Angola, where all people participate and benefit equally from the country's sustainable and inclusive social and economic transformation.
This collective will is focused on the idea that all people, especially women, young people and the most disadvantaged, are empowered through improved and equitable access to quality social and economic services, better governance and climate resilient solutions.
It also aims to transform all people in Angola into protagonists and beneficiaries of a sustainable and inclusive structural transformation of the country, which reduces poverty, food insecurity, disaster risks and consolidates the democratic model.
The United Nations system in Angola operates in four key areas, designated by four "Ps" People, Peace, Prosperity and Planet, referring respectively to Human Capital Development, Democratic Governance and Human Rights, Economic Diversification and Sustainable Food Systems, Climate resilience and sustainable management of natural resources.
However, within the scope of these four pillars, the United Nations commits to contributing to four main results, which will be achieved through the use of partnerships as a strategic facilitator named the fifth P.
The UN is equally committed to adopting a flexible and agile programming approach that responds to contextual changes, drawing on instruments such as the Common Country Analysis to inform program adjustments in a timely manner.
