Luanda – The Constitutional Court (TC) validated the XIII Ordinary Congress of UNITA, held in December 2021, which re-elected Adalberto da Costa Júnior, president of the party.
The decision is contained in a TC ruling released on Wednesday. With this step, the politician can run as the head of his party's list in the general elections scheduled for August this year.
In October 2021, the election of Adalberto da Costa Júnior as president of UNITA had been declared illegal, following the congress of this party, held in November 2019.
One of the arguments for the “dismissal” was that the politician would have run for the leadership of UNITA without renouncing his Portuguese nationality, which conflicted with the party's statutes.
Two months later (December), UNITA held the XIII Ordinary Congress that re-elected Adalberto Costa Júnior as president of the party.
