Huambo – Angolan president João Lourenço inaugurated on Friday a Journalist Training Centre (CEFOJOR) in central Huambo province, with innovative facilities to train staff in various aspects of the communication sector.
The centre will provide training in the areas of journalism, public relations, multimedia, cinema, advertising and digital marketing for nationals and the citizens of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
Budgeted at roughly 35 million US dollars, the centre comprises six buildings, one of which is reserved for catering services, two multi-sports courts and six guest houses, as well as TV, radio and press studios.
The facilities have been designed to stimulate the academic and practical growth of students to help improve journalistic skills.
CEFOJOR has explored the practical side of journalism, as the theoretical part has been left for universities of Social Communication courses.
The centre will include teaching in national languages, Portuguese and English, writing official documents, sound design, digital marketing and master of ceremonies, among others.
National trainers
CEFOJOR's management said they rely on the experience of journalists who have made a name for themselves at public television (TPA), national radio (RNA), news agency (ANGOP) and daily newspaper (JORNAL DE ANGOLA), in a combined exercise with other professionals who could take on the job of trainer.
CEFOJOR in Huambo is considered to be the largest of its kind in the country set up in response to the government’s commitment to technical and professional training of young people, fostering creativity and generating more job opportunities. DC/VIC/TED/AMP
