Djibloho – Angolan president João Lourenço takes part Friday in the 5th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) taking place in Djibloho, Equatorial Guinea.
The event was preceded by Thursday’s meeting of the Council of Ministers, within the framework of the Central African Peace and Security Council (COPAX) to discuss the political transition in Gabon.
The ministers analyzed the report of the ECCAS facilitator for the transition process in Gabon and the recommendations of the ECCAS Commission chairperson on the implementation of the decision for the provisional relocation of the Community's headquarters from Libreville to Malabo (Equatorial Guinea).
The Council of Ministers of the Economic Community of Central African States has decided to submit a proposal for the creation of a financial fund to support the facilitator's missions in Gabon to the Heads of State and Government of the organization for approval on Friday.
According to Angolan Foreign Minister Téte António, the ministers agreed to Equatorial Guinea's proposal, taking into account the costs of the missions of the facilitator appointed by the organization to meet with the Gabonese authorities and civil society players.
According to the minister, in the last three months, the mediator appointed by ECCAS, the President of the Central African Republic, Faustin Archange Touadera, has travelled to Gabon on several occasions for contacts with the Gabonese authorities and various civil society actors, as part of the effort to return to normality.
Gabon was suspended and removed from the body's leadership in September following the coup d'état that removed President Ali Bongo Ondimba from power by a group of soldiers.
ECCAS has approved the temporary transfer of the presidency from Gabon to Equatorial Guinea.
The Economic Community of Central African States has drawn up a roadmap to serve as a guideline for the mediator to apply the measures approved by the organization.
ECCAS is made up of Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe and the Democratic Republic of Congo. VM/VIC/AMP
