Ondjiva – The Migration and Foreigners Service (SME) in southern Cunene Province recorded a total of 320,881 lands migratory movements between Angola and Namibia from July to September this year, the third deputy-head of SME Isomar Matias has told ANGOP.
The SME spokesperson said of the registrations, 244,316 are nationals and 76,565 foreigners of different nationalities.
Matias explained that the movements were registered at the border posts of Santa Clara, Ruacaná, Okalonga and Calueque, with an increase of 6,026 cases compared to the previous period.
Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique, CaboVerde, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Nigerian and Democratic Republic of Congo are among the countries with foreign citizens divided into tourists and residents.
The SME official revealed that after the payment of the fines, the offenders were ordered to leave the country and other six foreign citizens were expelled administratively and judicially.
According to him, the SME in Cunene province has received 16 nationals who were expelled from Namibia due to illegal migration.
The Migration and Foreigners Service currently controls 602 foreign citizens of different countries, of whom 445 have work visas, 72 are residents, 56 have temporary residence, 23 are convicts and seven are detainees, as well as 98 foreign asylum seekers.
Cunene province shares a 460 kilometre border with the northern region of Namibia.
