Luanda - The Minister of the Interior, Manuel Homem, announced, on Friday, in Luanda, that the Migration and Foreigner Service (SME) is preparing measures for speedy issuance and attribution of passports.
The official, who was speaking during a working visit to the national headquarters of the SME and the Customs Fiscal Unit at the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, in Luanda, said that programs are being created, which will come into force in the coming days, to provide greater speed to processes that were received at the institution and whose legal deadlines for completion have expired.
“We will work uninterruptedly to ensure that all national citizens, who processed their documents, have access to them”. he stressed.
He said that the purpose of the visit was to assess the actions that are being developed to guarantee better service procedures and quality in the processing of national documents, as well as in the management processes for visas issued by the SME or residence cards for foreign citizens.
“We need to take some urgent decisions to improve the quality of the service provided by the SME, with emphasis on documents processed more than three (3) or (4) four years ago,” he said.
The Minister of the Interior spoke of the possible increase in the fees for passport issuance in the near future, due to operational costs.
“We may see an increase in fees, due to the operational costs of issuing a passport, as well as the regional and international reality, which may force us to undertake this exercise”, he said.
Regarding the results of the process that led to the suspension of the SME course, Manuel Homem said that the resolution of the dossier will be published in February.
“The results will be published by the first fortnight of February and, with the results published, people who understand that they were unfairly treated in the assessment can also appeal for certification of the process in accordance with the law,” he stated. MEL/SC/DOJ
