Dundo – At least 84.300 litres of smuggled fuel were seized on Wednesday in the municipality of Cambulo, Lunda-Norte province, by the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC).
The 84,300 litres of fuel, 51,000 of which were diesel and 33,300 petrol, were destined for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where they were to be sold.
According to the SIC spokesman in Lunda-Norte, Graciano Lumanhe, the manager of the petrol station, who was allegedly involved in the crime, was arrested during the operation.
He revealed that the manager ‘transshipped the product from the pumps supported by four underground tanks, with a storage capacity of 35,000 litres each, into a 25-litre container, to be smuggled across the border from Mwaquece and Marco-5 (Cambulo).
He said that various means used during the process were also seized, such as a motor pump, two hoses and a 15 KVA generator set.
He said that the detained citizen would be referred to the Public Prosecutor's Office for formalisation of charges and the seized fuel would be handed over to the General State Administration (AGT) as a trustee. JVL/HD/DAN/DOJ
