Dundo – The Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) on Wednesday seized a total of 21,580 diamond stones of various carats in Xá-muteba municipality, eastern Lunda-Norte province, for alleged illegal possession and trafficking.
The information was disclosed by the SIC spokesperson in Lunda-Norte, Graciano Lumanhe, adding that the diamonds were in possession of a 58-year-old man, whose nationality has not yet been revealed, who extracted the diamonds in one of the exploration areas in the municipality of Cambulo and intended to travel to the country's capital, Luanda, by land, to sell the strategic mineral.
The SIC Spokesperson said that the arrest was the result of a search and collection of operational information, following a tip-off and that the citizen will be sent to the Public Prosecutor's Office for further charges, while the diamonds would be handed over to the State-owned Diamond Company ENDIAMA as a trustee.
