Luanda – At least six non-resident Angolan citizens in Israel were evacuated to Luanda, through a stopover in Lisbon (Portugal), the Angolan ambassador in Tel Aviv, Osvaldo Varela, has announced.
Speaking to Angola Public Television (TPA), the ambassador clarified that since the escalation of the conflict there have been several cancellations of flights to Tel Aviv, making it very difficult to evacuate Angolan citizens, taking into account their status as non-residents.
“Fortunately, we were able to resolve the situation,” the ambassador said.
Regarding the rest of the community, he said that from the total number of 36 Angolans, only 17 expressed interests in leaving Israel.
There are still four unreachable Angolans, three of whom are athletes, the ambassador said.
"We have already managed to contact basketball player Yanick Moreira (playing for Hapoel Afula B.C). They gave us his contact details in Luanda, but we have not yet been able to contact him. We don't know if he intends to be evacuated or not", the ambassador said.
The ambassador underlined that since the number of Angolans is small, there is no need to send a plane to Israel, as the evacuation via the commercial route is still being carried out.
