Luanda – The Secretary of State of the United States of America Antony Blinken congratulated Saturday in Washington, D.C., the Angolan people on the celebration of 48th anniversary of national independence.
In a statement to which ANGOP had access to, Antony Blinken said the US considers Angola a strategic partner and a leader in regional forums.
The US Secretary of State expressed satisfaction with the way the two countries have expanded their partnership, especially in the past year. From the US-Africa Leaders Summit, to increased security co-operation and the ways US companies are succeeding in Angola.
Antony Blinken said the US-Angola relationship is strong and growing and that his country Looks forward to continuing to work with the Angolan people on regional stability, shared prosperity and the fight against corruption," reads the statement.
The US official praised the shared commitment to peace, security and the principles of the United Nations Charter, wishing the Angolan people all the best in celebrating this day.
Angola and the US signed a strategic partnership agreement in 2010 and cooperate in various fields particularly trade, finance, energy, manufacturing, security, health and justice.
Angola exports oil and diamonds to the US and buys food, equipment for the oil sector and various types of machinery from it.
Angola is the US's third largest trading partner in sub-Saharan Africa, mainly due to oil exports. VM/MRA/AMP
