Benguela - The Secretary of State for Social Communication, Nuno Caldas Albino, considered, in Benguela, the General Population and Housing Census 2024, as the biggest media event in the country.
The official, who was speaking at a seminar on the Population and Housing Census, highlighted the importance of society's massive participation and collaboration in the population census, as it is a complex statistical operation that a country can carry out in times of peace.
'This operation must be well prepared in order to ensure that the National Statistics Institute (INE) complies with all the requirements established by the United Nations and ensures high quality information', he stated.
The government official made a point of highlighting that, every ten years, the results of the General Population and Housing Census are published, which strengthens the main demographic, housing, socio-economic and other characteristics.
'It is an operation that must engage everyone without exception, showing collaboration in the civic and urban exercise that has always characterized the Angolan people', he emphasized.
Nuno Caldas Albino appealed to the traditional, ecclesiastical authorities, National Police, Army and civil society, for patriotic commitment and to assume themselves as faithful providers of awareness and mobilization of the population.
On the other hand, the Provincial Director of Registries, Tuca Manuel, stated that it is a necessary experience for the correct planning of efforts, in relation to the national territory.
He argued that the national territory needs a balance of actions, goods and services for the population.
For this to happen, he advocated, we need to know how many we are, where we are and where we are going, which is why the Census is being prepared and will be carried out.
He highlighted that it is not a formal activity of the Government, but mandatory and strictly necessary to maintain the integrity of the State, fundamentally for proposals for public intervention actions.
The population census will take place next July. The last one was carried out in 2014. TC/CRB/DOJ
