Luanda - The Secretary of Defense of the United States of America (USA), Lloyd Austin, will visit Angola, next week, to strengthen relations and explore paths towards greater military cooperation between the two countries.
According to the "Pentagon", the visit to Luanda will focus on building stronger defense relations and exploring paths for greater military cooperation between the US and Angola.
The visit is part of a tour of Africa, namely in Djibouti, Kenya and Angola, with the aim of highlighting the US Department of Defense's commitment to strengthening partnerships and increasing regional security on the African continent.
This is the first visit to the country by a US Secretary of Defense.
In April 2022, Minister of State and Head of the Military Affairs Office of the President of the Republic, Francisco Furtado, met in Washington with the North American Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, within the framework of bilateral cooperation.
At the end of the meeting, the two countries reaffirmed, in a Joint Declaration, their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of defense, continuing and celebrating the fifth anniversary of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding of May 17, 2017, between the Ministry of the National Defense of Angola and the US's DoD.
