Luanda - SADC Double Troika addressed Sunday the security situation prevailing in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
This was during extraordinary meeting of the Ministerial Committee of the SADC Double Troika with the contributing countries with the staff of the United Nations Force Intervention Brigade (FIB) held in Windhoek, Namibia.
The meeting also analysed the Report of the SADC Assessment Mission on the ground in the eastern region of that country.
The event still focused on the SADC Operational Contingency Plan for assistance to the DRC, as well as the positioning of the organization in the Tripartite Summit of the Southern African Developing Country (SADC), Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) and International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), with the intervention of the United Nations (UN) and African Union (AU), aimed to bring back security in the eastern region of the DRC.
The participants also analysed the prevailing situation in the eastern provinces of the DRC, which has deteriorated during the last year, after the M23 Group re-launched its attacks.
This fact has been generating consequences with intense armed activities from M23 and other armed groups, especially in the provinces of North-Kivu, South-Kivu and Ituri.
The meeting was attended by multi-sector ministerial delegations from Angola, South Africa, Namibia, Malawi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania and Zambia.
The Angolan delegation was led by the Foreign Affairs Minister, Téte António, who will also represent the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, at the Extraordinary Summit of the Troika of the SADC Body with the Contributing Countries with FIB staff, to be held on Monday (8).
