Sumbe - The Executive is engaged in clearing landmines in the coastal province of Cuanza Sul in order to guarantee socio-economic development, National Mine Action Agency (ANAM) has said.
The government commitment was stressed by the general director of ANAM Leonardo Sapalo on Tuesday in Sumbe, Cuanza Sul, at the end of a meeting with the deputy governor for the political, economic and social sector of Cuanza Sul, Emília Tchinawalile.
Sapalo added that ANAM and the NGOs landmine clearing work will allow the free circulation of people and goods and ensure development of the agriculture.
“Cuanza Sul has agricultural potential, so it must be free of mines. We are aware that achieving this goal will not be an easy task, but with everyone's commitment and dedication we will overcome it”, he stressed.
The completion of the demining process in the country, initially scheduled for 2025, was extended to 2028, due to financial problems.
The province of Cuanza Sul is the fourth most mined in the country. IS/MCN/NIC
