Uíge – A total of 14,438 explosive devices have been removed in the province of Uíge, since 2007, in an area of 144.2 million square meters, reported today the deputy director general of the National Mine Action Agency (ANAM), António Capita.
Of the total explosive material removed in 322 areas of the province, 14,144 are anti-personnel and 294 anti-tank ordnances, said the spokeperson at the consultation meeting on the mined areas in the region.
He explained that, currently, the province of Uíge has only five mined areas, covering an area of 272,651 square meters.
António Capita said that in research carried out in the country, between 2004-07, 3,393 suspected mine areas were identified.
He explained that the identified areas resulted from the efforts of the Angolan Executive, as well as administrative and traditional authorities, non-governmental organizations and the population in general.
When speaking at the event, the vice-governor for Uige's Technical and Infrastructures Area, Helena Pereira, appealed to the region's population to keep collaborating with the demining teams, in order to identify the mined areas in the region.
The meeting was attended by administrative, traditional, defense and security authorities, among other guests.
