Ondjiva- An anti-tank mine and two mortar projectiles measuring 82 and 60 millimeters were removed on Monday from agricultural fields in the municipality of Cuanhama, Cunene province, by technicians from the National Demining Center (CND).
According to a note sent to ANGOP, the removal process and consequent destruction of these explosives was possible after public awareness.
During the action, more than 400 citizens were made aware of the risks of mines, as well as continuing to collaborate with the authorities in reporting suspected cases, especially during this farming season, with a view to preserving human lives.
It should be noted that, in November 2023, the FAA's B brigade removed nine unexploded explosive devices, including seven PG-7s and two 82 mm mortar shells, from an agricultural field in the town of Olyafilwa (Ombadja).
In January of the same year, a farmer from the commune of Môngua raised an anti-attack mine while preparing the land with an animal-drawn plow.
In 2022, in the same location, an anti-tank mine was found in identical conditions in the mine, which fatally killed five members of a family.
In the province of Cunene, three demining operators are deployed, namely the National Institute of Demining (INAD), the Border Guard Police and the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA).FI/LHE/MCN/DOJ
