Luanda - The United Kingdom has said it is proud to see the British non-governmental organization "Halo Trust" working with the Angolan government to make it free of mines.
The statement was made Monday by the British Minister of State for Climate, Food Security and Rural Development, Richard Benyon, at the end of an audience granted to him by the Angolan president, João Lourenço.
The UK Prime Minister's special envoy said the meeting served to assure the Angolan statesman that bilateral relations between the two countries would be increasingly consolidated.
Benyon congratulated the Angolan president and government for their efforts to bring peace to the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The diplomat said that he had recently been in the DRC and Rwanda, so he has come to Angola to tell the Angolan president how "grateful" they are for his leadership and sense of state in trying to bring the warring parties together to achieve a meaningful peace in that region.
The audience also served to express the UK's intention to work "very directly" with Angola on the "visionary project" of the Lobito Corridor. PA/VIC/TED/AMP
