Luanda – The ongoing electoral registration update process, as part of the 2022 general elections, starts this Thursday countrywide.
The ongoing electoral registration update aims to register all citizens with active electoral capacity, for a period of six months.
In the first phase, which ends in December, the database of potential voters will be updated, and the second phase will take place as from January to March of next year will be carried out in Angola and abroad.
In the country, the updating of electoral data such as the address of adult citizens, including those who will turn 18 next year, will take place in 596 Public Single Public Windows (BUAP) and abroad in diplomatic and consular representations of the Republic of Angola.
Angop has learnt that the ongoing electoral registration update process is estimated at 120 billion kwanzas.
The Minister of Territory Administration, Marcy Lopes, has been urging political parties and civil society to avoid the speech of fraud so that citizens adhere to the process of updating the electoral registrar.
He guaranteed the Government´s commitment to the mass provision of the Identity Card in the country and abroad, indicating that the number of posts issuing the document abroad will increase from 12 to 18.
Minister Marcy Lopes said that the ID card holders will receive the municipal card and that electoral cards will only be issued in areas where there is no condition to issue identity card.
He also said that it is expected that by 2027 the ban of the electoral card, from that date onwards, holders of the Identity Card will have the right to vote.
Marcy Lopes assured that all eleven parties and coalition of legal political parties will oversight the entire process.
It is estimated that around 400,000 Angolans live abroad, mostly across Africa and Europe.
