Menongue - The Ombudswoman, Florbela Araújo, acknowledged Friday in the city of Menongue, capital of Cuango Cubango, the speed of procedural processing resulting from the opening of the Courts of Appeal in the provinces of Luanda, Benguela and Huila.
Speaking to the press at the end of her working visit to the province of Cuando Cubango, she also highlighted the increase of judges at the Supreme Court level, as an indicator that is also contributing to the celerity of the treatment of criminal cases in the country.
"There is an understanding of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The hope is that with the increase in the number of judges and with the inauguration of the relationship courts in the provinces already mentioned, the processes will register an acceptable celerity, services that have to be extended to other corners of the country," she stressed.
On the other hand, the Ombudswoman expressed her concern about the overcrowding of the population in the Menongue correctional centres, despite the fact that no cases of excess of remand custody are registered, which requires improving the conditions of accommodation of citizens in conflict with the law.
There are 826 inmates in the Cuando Cubango prison establishment, of which 485 are convicted and 341 are detainees. The institution has capacity for 500 prisoners.
