Luanda - Ombudswoman Florbela Rocha Araújo Wednesday in Luanda spoke of the need for permanent strengthening in institutional cooperation with the National Assembly.
Speaking at a meeting with the National Assembly Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, the official said cooperation allows to meet the concerns of citizens on defence of rights, freedoms and fundamental guarantees.
She also defended the need for advocacy with the competent bodies, particularly the Executive, aimed to improve the functioning conditions of the institution that defends the citizen, central and local level.
According to the Ombudswoman, the extension of the provincial services of the Ombudsman's Office is one of the main objectives of her mandate.
Florbela Araújo mentioned the lack of facilities to house the institution, the expansion of the staff and the occasional amendment of the Ombudsman's Law and the Organic Law of the Statute of the Ombudsman as the main concerns related to the sector.
During the meeting, the National Assembly Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, welcomed the issues presented and pledged that she would submit them to competent bodies.
She instructed the Ombudswoman to collaborate with the 10th commission of the Angolan parliament, dedicated to human rights, petitions, complaints and suggestions from citizens, as part of strengthening institutional cooperation.
This is the first meeting of the kind between the Ombudswoman and the National Assembly Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira.
