Luanda - The Angolan ombudsperson and also Chair of the African Ombudsman and Mediators Association (AOMA), Florbela Rocha Araújo, participated on Tuesday (Feb 25) in the opening of the Conference on Arbitration and Mediation, taking place in Lusaka, Zambia, until Feb 28.
The conference organized by AOMA, in partnership with the Zambia International Arbitration Center, featured an opening speech by the Head of the International Global Arbitration Center, Mohammed Abdel Wahaba, who presented the historical path and importance of this center in resolving disputes.
In her intervention, the AOMA's Chair, Florbela Araújo, highlighted the Association's historical path, its challenges, Agreements and Memorandums of Understanding signed with other institutions.
Within the scope of AOMA's cooperation with other institutions, she highlighted the Memorandums of Understanding signed with the African Union (AU), the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI), the International Latin American Institute of Ombudsmen (ILO) and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).
At the end of her speech, Florbela Araújo praised the association's achievements, having congratulated the initiative of Zambia's AOMA and Ombudsman Secretary General, Caroline Sokoni, for the opening of the Institute of International Arbitration of Zambia.
As a recommendation, the importance of alternative means of litigation for resolving various conflicts and violations of citizens' rights was highlighted.
The opening was attended by Zambia's Minister of Justice, the Zambia's Attorney General, Judicial Magistrates and Public Prosecutors, Ombudsman and Mediators from different African countries and Heads of Law, Mediation and Arbitration Associations.
For Thursday (Feb 27), the program will cover other matters of interest to the Association and Florbela Araújo is to participate in a round table.
