Luanda - The National Assembly (AN) discusses and proceeds on Wednesday, August 14, the final global vote on the draft Law on the country's new Political-Administrative Division, which foresees the emergence of three new provinces, which will join the existing 18.
These are the provinces of Icolo Bengo, which will result from the division into two regions of the capital Luanda, Cassai-Zambeze (province of Moxico division) and Cuango, which will result from the division of the province of Cuando-Cubango.
If the proposal is approved, the country will have 325 municipalities compared to the current 164.
The Executive's draft, under discussion during the VIII extraordinary plenary session, aims to establish a new political-administrative division of the country, to adapt it to the demands of demographic growth, infrastructure, the expansion of population clusters and the geographical limits of territories.
It also responds to the need to reduce regional asymmetries, promote the harmonious development of the national territory and the quality of the organization and provision of basic essential services to the populations.
Regarding to the division of Luanda (Angola capital), the one that generates the most discussions and was introduced later, the Minister of State and Chief of Staff of the Presidency of the Republic, Adão de Almeida, during the discussion in the specialty, stated that they propose the emergence of another province to allow the creation of another political-administrative center, which will be an essential element in attracting another development pole.
With the current configuration, Adão de Almeida highlighted that there is only one center of attraction for development, which is the center of Luanda, highlighting that with the new vision the conditions are created for the capital to no longer have approximately 10 million inhabitants.
He warned that the political-administrative division will not solve all of the capital's main issues, but will allow for a different approach, which he considered essential for resolving citizens' concerns.
At the same meeting, deputies will discuss and vote on proposed laws on the Bases of the National Professional Training System, National Security and the proposal that amends the Organic Law of the National Assembly.
The agenda also includes the analysis and voting on draft resolutions on international matters, with emphasis on those that approve, for the accession of the Republic of Angola, to conventions 122, 155 and 1189, relating to Employment, Safety and Health at Work Policy and Domestic Service Work.
