Luanda – The Prime Minister of Portugal, Luís Montenegro, learned this Tuesday about the collection of military history, in the former São Miguel de Luanda fortress, as part of his three-day official visit to Angola.
Luís Montenegro carried out a guided tour of the Military History Museum (MHM) and received explanations about its collection.
In signing the institution's book of honor, he left words of comfort, friendship and respect for Angola, its people and the entire history portrayed here, considering the place "a symbol of identity of the Angolan Nation and a historical repository".
Formerly known as the Central Museum of the Armed Forces, it was installed in 1978 in a precarious situation with its museum elements dilapidated, having been reopened to the public in April 2013 with the collection already recovered.
In the MHM, military equipment is on display, including vehicles, boats, clothes, weapons, and other utensils belonging to the 1st President of the republic of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, and the three national liberation movements (MPLA, FNLA and UNITA) used during the conflict.
