Luanda – Angolan president João Lourenço pledged Saturday in Luanda to always work to “build a strong and stable nation, as part of a true democratic and lawful State”.

This was during his State of the Nation Address to mark the opening of the I Legislative Session of the V Legislature of the National Assembly (AN).

João Lourenço  said that he will fight for a country respected in the concert of nations, which effectively and actively contributes to peace and progress of humanity.

According to the President, over the next five years, the priority will continue to be improving the living conditions and well-being of all Angolans, stressing that the Executive will continue to devote all its attention and commitment to economic and society of Angola.

“We want teachers to be valued and able to teach children with better quality, with better conditions in public schools. We aim to see hospitals not only well equipped from a technical laboratory point of view, with well-prepared professionals from a professional point of view, but above all that are capable of providing more humanised medical services with the desired quality”, said the  Head of State.

He noted that he aspired to see graduates and postgraduates better prepared in Angola's higher education institutions, in order to contribute to increased productivity, competitiveness and innovation in the most diverse branches of economic and social life.

He pledged to work so that urban and rural communities have better basic sanitation, decent housing with energy and drinking water, in an environment in which security and internal order are permanently guaranteed and families live in peace and harmony, developing  the creativity and talent.

“These are the aspirations of all Angolans that, in order to achieve them, we have to work together, each one doing their part”, explained João Lourenço, defending that Angolans should be proud of the country's diplomacy in the pacification of the African continent.

Defence and Security

As for the defence and security forces, he stated that, in the last five years, important investments were made in raising their levels of organisation, with a view to restructuring and resizing the national defence sector.

“We reinforced the means to fight crime and delinquency, we worked on the process of payments of salaries of the national defence sector in the integrated system of management of the finances of the State, we organised and restarted the activity of the defence industry, as is the case of the factory for the production of military uniforms”, he explained.

The president added that actions were also taken to reinforce the economic and financial sustainability of the social security system of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) and the Social Protection Fund of the Ministry of the Interior, among other relevant actions.
