Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, returned tonight to Luanda, after participating in COP 28 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he highlighted the commitment of Angola to renewable energies, as it represents one of the main pillars of adaptation to climate change.
Upon arrival, the Head of State was received by the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Vista, among other personalities.
At the COP 28 World Climate Action Summit, the Angolan President said that the country faces all issues related to climate change with firmness and commitment.
Throughout his speech, he said that the phenomenon of severe drought in the south of the country and in other parts of the planet, shows everyone how important it is to prevent global disasters.
Among other diplomatic activities, during his stay in the UAE, he chaired the High-Level Forum on the Southern African Great Green Wall initiative, focusing on mitigating environmental phenomena in the region.
Among other aspects, throughout his statement, João Lourenço considered that the region has great potential to contribute to a sustainable and prosperous future, taking into account its growing young population.
He announced that, under the presidency of Angola, in 2024, SADC will invest in human and financial capital, as a catalyst for the sustainable industrialization of the meeting. SC/VC/DOJ
