Luanda – Angolan President of the Republic João Lourenço addressed Thursday the developments and investments made by the Executive in the last five years.
The Head of State's address was part of a communication programme started in 2018, with a view to addressing different themes on the reality of the country.
The president, who was speaking during an interview with public and private media outlets, spoke of the role of the media, having considered the sector's performance to be satisfactory.
As for the electoral observation, despite the insistence on inviting observers, he argued that everything depends on the deadlines established in Angolan law and anything in this field depends on this factor.
Delivering his speech, he also referred to the issues of strikes in the Education, Health and Justice sectors, which, although fair, should also take into account the investments in these sectors.
Specifically the Health sector, the president referred that the State is making one of the biggest investments in recent times.
As an example, he mentioned the Sanatorium, Pediatric Hematology, Maternal and Child hospitals, among others, in relation to which the professionals expressed gratitude for the work done by the Executive.
Therefore, he said, "it is not true that the state is doing nothing".
João Lourenço also highlighted the fact that, in the field of Health, tertiary level units are under construction, such as the general hospitals of Viana, Cacuaco (Luanda), Caxito (Bengo), Sumbe (Cuanza Sul), Ndalatando (Cuanza Norte) and Cunene.
However, he stressed that the Executive's investments are not limited to infrastructure, but also to man.
Throughout the interview, he was also confident in the work of the Justice, which in his opinion has gained greater independence, as well as the positive results of the asset recovery process.
Another key point has to do with the positive results in the diamond sector, which leads the large international companies in the sector to return to the country.
With that, he said that Angola begins to become an important point of diamond cutting, adding more value to the national economy.
In another area, President João Lourenço expressed his openness to dialogue with all national political forces, denying that a regime pact is therefore necessary for those who win the next general elections, scheduled for 24 August.
With regard to the Simplified Emergency Contracting, he said that this, in the cases in which it was carried out, had reason to be, due to its urgency.
Future challenges
In this interview, the President also addressed the priorities if he wins the general elections on 24 August this year, stressing the continuation of investment in the fields of water and energy.
Likewise, he highlighted a greater focus on building decent infrastructure for public higher education.
