Luanda – The Guinea-Bissau President, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, arrived Wednesday evening in Luanda to attend the inauguration ceremony of the re-elected President of Angola, João Lourenço, to take place Thursday.
The Guinea Bissau Head of State, who is the current Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (CEDEAO) was welcomed at Luanda 4 de Fevereiro International Airport by the minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, accompanied by the governor of Luanda, Ana Paula de Carvalho.
Umaro Embaló is the first Head of State to land in the Angolan capital. Other personalities are expected in Luanda, such as the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
Following his arrival the Guinean statesman met with President João Lourenço.
Umaro Sissoco Embaló had already congratulated João Lourenço, on behalf of the Guinean people, on his victory in the August 24 general elections.
The Chairman of the Commission of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), Gilberto da Veríssimo, and the Executive Secretary of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), Ambassador Georges Chikoti, are also in Luanda to attend the inauguration ceremony.
The MPLA party and its leader, João Lourenço, won the fifth general elections held last August in Angola with 51.17 percent of the votes.
