Luanda – The presiding judge of the Angolan Supreme Court (TS) Joel Leonardo, who is in Brasilia, Republic of Brazil, to take part in the 11th Forum of the Presidents of the Supreme Courts of Portuguese-speaking Countries and Territories, to be held from 27 to 29 November, will present in the event the theme "Digitalisation of the Courts".
According to a press release to which ANGOP had access today, the event will centre on the theme "The Judiciary and New Technologies", and will be attended by the presiding judge of the Supreme Courts, Courts of Appeal and Courts of Final Appeal.
On the sidelines of the event, Joel Leonardo will hold courtesy meetings with some of his counterparts, namely the President of the Superior Court of Justice of Brazil and the Council of Federal Justice of the Federative Republic of Brazil, to discuss strengthening the existing cooperation between the two Courts.
He will also present his intention to establish a new cooperation agreement between the Supreme Judicial Councils of the two countries.
The Forum is a platform for consultation and judicial cooperation between the supreme judicial bodies of these countries and territories, namely Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, the Special Administrative Region of Macau, São Tome and Principe and East Timor.
The event aims to contribute to the enhancement of the common legal heritage and the strengthening of rights, to defend the independence of the judiciary, to foster dialogue between the country's High Courts, magistrates and officials, with a view to the effectiveness of judicial bodies and citizens' access to the courts, to promote the exchange of experiences and information in the field of judicial cooperation, case law and literature.
In this regard, the event contributes to approximating legal systems of the countries and territories which are participating in the gathering, as well as the assessment on the justice issues that each time are of greater interest to their respective citizens, in order to reinforce their image with them.
In this context, the Conference of the Presidents of the Supreme Courts of Justice of Portuguese-speaking Countries and Territories is a privileged meeting place for the Portuguese-speaking judicial community, represented by the highest representatives of the judiciary in those countries and territories.
