Luanda – The Vice President of Angola, Esperança Costa, and the Kenyan President, William Rutu, assessed Sunday the state of bilateral cooperation between both countries.

The two officials who are in Sharm El-Sheikh city of Egypt in scope of the COP27 United Nations Climate Change Conference, took the opportunity to review issues related to the bilateral cooperation as well as projects to fight climate change.

Talking to the press, Esperança Costa said that the time was used to highlight the need to strengthen the cooperation between both countries, as well as the interest to defend the African Union (AU) position regarding the implementation of commitments made in the ambit of the climate change fight.

As regards the objectives and expectations of Angola, Esperança Costa stated that with one voice and in a united way, Africa has the opportunity to put its vision across by reminding that it is the continent that pollutes the least but that suffers the most from the consequences of climate change.

“There is an approximation of positions so that there is a commitment and a turning of the page to achieve the recommended objectives”, she explained.

Esperança Costa said also that the Kenyan Head of State invited President João Lourenço for an official visit to his country, congratulating him also on his re-election in last 24 August general elections.

Angola and Kenya have had relations for several years.

In 2012, both States signed three legal instruments, namely the General Agreement on Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation, the Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries, as well as the Agreement on the Creation of the Bilateral Commission.

COP 27

During the COP27, the Angolan authorities will reiterate their concern related to climate change, which is one of the main challenges that humanity faces due to the number of effects that this phenomenon has caused.

Among the hot topics that Angola will defend in the COP27 is regarding the financing of some projects related to the environment, in order to mitigate climate change effects.

Angola will present the Blue Carbon project which is being managed by the Otchiva Environmental Association, being supported by Sonangol E.P. and Total, relating to Photovoltaic Plants, the renowed clean energies, managed by the Ministries of Energy and Water and of Natural Resources, Oil and Gas, as well as Green Hydrogen.

The mentioned projects will be presented at the Congo Basin exhibition spot in the event, which will also include the Blue Fund Project.
