Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, returned to the country, after a few hours journey to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where he held a meeting with his counterpart, Félix Tshisekedi.
Upon his arrival, the statesman received greetings from the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa.
The trip to the DRC focused on the solution of the political-military conflict between this country and Rwanda, namely the ceasefire in force since August 4.
The meeting took place a day after another that the Angolan Head of State held in the Rwandan capital, Kigali, with President Paul Kagame, on the sidelines of the latter's swearing-in ceremony.
To address the same subject, João Lourenço, Champion of the African Union for Peace and Reconciliation and acting president of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), received, in Luanda, Félix Tshisekedi, in February, and Paul Kagame, in March.
Also, in February this year, another Angolan diplomatic initiative took place in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), before the opening of the 37th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the continental organization.
On the occasion, President João Lourenço led the work of the meeting, which brought together several Heads of State and Government present in Addis Ababa for the African Union Conference.
The DRC accuses Rwanda and the M23 of trying to seize the minerals in eastern Congo, while the M23 claims to be defending a threatened part of the Tutsi population living in North Kivu. SC/DOJ
