Luanda – Angolan President João Lourenço on Monday congratulated the People and the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe on the holding of the harmonised elections which were held from 23 to 24 August this year, aimed at choosing the President of the Republic, members of the Parliament and Local Government Representatives.
According to a note from the President´s Support Office, which ANGOP had access to, in a message to President-elect Emmerson Mnangagwa, the Angolan statesman also welcomed the peaceful and quiet atmosphere in which the voting process took place, as witnessed by the various Electoral Observation Missions.
The president´s letter states that this is a demonstration of the resilient maturity of the Zimbabwean people, despite the social and economic adversities facing the country, resulting from the long period of international sanctions imposed, and more recently from the post-pandemic environment of COVID-19 and the harmful effects of the European conflict.
João Lourenço greets the President-elect as well as the winning party and at the same time he encourages the other political players to respect the constitutional rules and laws relating to elections.
