Luanda - A message from the Angolan president, João Lourenço, to his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, was delivered Wednesday in Beijing to the deputy director-general for African Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zhang Bin.
The letter was delivered by Angola's ambassador to China, João Salvador Neto, on the occasion of China's National Day, to be held on 1 October, read a statement from Angola's diplomatic representation in the Asian country.
At the meeting, the Chinese diplomat thanked the Angolan statesman for his gesture.
At the same meeting, Zhang Bin handed ambassador João Salvador Neto a message from China's Foreign Affairs minister, Wang Yi, to his Angolan counterpart, Téte António.
João Salvador Neto and Zhang Bin discussed, during the meeting, cooperation between the two countries at the level of international organisations and the need to boost exchanges in the economic and staff training areas.
João Salvador Neto noted the importance of China's support in the diversification of Angola's economy and encouraged Chinese companies to invest in Angola in the agriculture and fishing sectors.
Angola and China trade turnover
Trade between Angola and China in the first quarter of 2021 posted growth of 23.9 percent, calculated at US$10.5 million (around 6.6 billion kwanzas).
Of the total value of trade, the Chinese side imported the equivalent of US$9.5 million from Angola, with growth of around 21.6 percent.
China exported goods worth US$1.3 billion to Angola, a rise of 50 percent.
