Luanda – Angola’s National Assembly Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, on Friday congratulated her French counterpart, Yael Braun Pivet, on her re-election for a new term at the head of the French Parliament.

On a note sent to ANGOP, Carolina Cerqueira wishes that Ms Pivet’s sense of dialogue, her inspiring posture as a woman of consensus, can continue to congregate the aspiration of French MPs.

“With high satisfaction, I congratulate you on your re-election for a new term at the head of the National Assembly of the Republic of France, a post you’ve taken overin 2022, thus becoming the first woman to occupy such position”, Carolina Cerqueira wrote.

She expressed her conviction that Ms Pivet’s leadership will be markedby excellence, democratic values and commitment to the wellbeing of French citizens.

In this perspective, the Angolan parliament speaker reaffirmed her institution’s availability to continue to strengthen the bilateral relations of friendship, solidarity and co-operation.

“We’ll continue to support and recognise your commitment to the defence of rights and equality among male and female deputies and the role you’ve been promoting so that generational and gender representation in parliaments be a priority, as demonstrated at the Summit of Female Leaders that you hosted in 2023, in Paris, a meeting which was attended by Angolan women deputies”, Carolina Cerqueira emphasised.

In concluding, she wishes that such leadership can be a headlight for the path of democracy, justice, peace and rule of law.

A candidate of the presidential coalition, Yael Braun Pivet (53) was re-elected this Thursday as Speaker of the French National Assembly with 220 votes in favour, ahead of the leftist NFP’s candidate André Chassaigne who received 207 votes.
