Luanda - The Speaker of the National Assembly (AN), Carolina Cerqueira, reaffirmed this Tuesday, in Luanda, the commitment of Angolan parliamentarians to the successful holding of the 147th Assembly of the IPU, which the country will host from the 23rd to the 27th of October.
In statements to the press, at the end of an activity to check the progress of the preparation work for the event, Carolina Cerqueira referred to the fact that all the people involved “made efforts with a sense of responsibility, so that the holding of the 147th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) can honour Angola and Angolans”.
With this, she added, “we reaffirm our commitment to justice, peace and strong institutions, which will also be the motto of the meeting”.
A few days before the kick off of the IPU's 147th General Assembly, the parliamentary leader also highlighted that this was also Angola's sense of responsibility towards the organization's member countries.
At this time, she said, preparations are being finalized with state-of-the-art equipment which, equally, becomes a future investment for the National Assembly.
“We are indeed very pleased that these advances have been possible towards creating working conditions for the approximately one thousand delegates who will come from all over the world, both at the level of the National Assembly and in other areas”, she highlighted.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is an international organization of the parliaments of sovereign states whose objective is to mediate multilateral contacts between deputies.
The organization has an intergovernmental nature, operates under the United Nations system and its main target is to obtain peace and cooperation between peoples and the consolidation of representative institutions through dialogue.
