Luanda - National Assembly Speaker Carolina Cerqueira Friday congratulated Domingos Simões Pereira on his election as Speaker of the National People's Assembly of Guinea-Bissau, ANGOP has learnt.
PAIGC leader and coordinator of the Inclusive Alliance Platform - Terra Ranka, Domingos Simões Pereira was elected on Thursday, 27, Speaker of the Guinean Parliament.
The election took place during the first session of the 11th legislature, with 89 votes in favour and three abstentions, among 92 voters.
In a message sent to her counterpart, Carolina Cerqueira said that the election of Domingos Simões Pereira corresponds to the will of the Guinean people, as a result of the democratic process underway in the country.
Carolina Cerqueira expresses the willingness and desire to strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two parliamentary institutions.
The NA speaker took the opportunity to invite the Guinea-Bissau counterpart to participate in the 147th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), to take place on 23 - 27 October in Luanda, under the motto: "Parliamentary Action for Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions".
The former Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau and leader of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cabo Verde (PAIGC) won an absolute majority in the legislative elections of 4 June, with 54 of the 102 MPs of the National People's Assembly (ANP). VM/DAN/NIC
