Luanda – The Speaker of Angola parliament, Carolina Cerqueira, on Tuesday congratulated her South African counterpart, Angela Thokozile Didiza, on her election to the post.
In a message to which ANGOP had access, Carolina Cerqueira refers to her profile as "an outstanding public servant with a brilliant political career of recognized value in the positions she held in the South African government.
These positions included Minister of Agriculture, Agrarian Reform and Rural Development, Labour and Social Security, as well as the fact that she was the youngest deputy minister in President Nelson Mandela's government".
The parliament Speaker points out that her qualities as a "social activist in the defense of the rights of young people, women and the most vulnerable populations, combined with her persistent fight for the highest ideals of the outstanding sons and daughters of Nelson Mandela's homeland", will add value to her performance in office.
Carolina Cerqueira highlights her counterpart’s commitment and great sense of patriotism in defense of peace, democracy, tolerance and dialogue, important foundations for her mandate to ensure the promotion and defence of fundamental values and rights as crucial prerequisites for building the democratic rule of law towards a just, democratic, supportive society of peace, equality and social progress.
The Speaker expressed her desire to continue strengthening the excellent relations between the two parliaments, following up on the bilateral agreements that have been established.
Carolina Cerqueira expressed the desire to continue to boost collaboration between parliamentarians and strengthen regional cooperation, so that the region can establish itself as a true inter-parliamentary platform capable of boosting integration through cooperation and the promotion of good practices.
