Luanda - National Assembly Speaker Carolina Cerqueira said the MPs should defend the peace, play their role as political representative, focus on dialogue and consultation, engage in the diversity of constructive and ethical debate.
The Parliament leader was speaking at the closing session of the 1st Legislative Session of the V Legislature of the National Assembly held on Tuesday.
Carolina Cerqueira said the path is made by walking with trust, focus and persistence, peace and respect for the democratically elected institutions for the achievement of the goals recommended for the improvement of the living standards of Angolans.
According to her, this is the kind of democracy the National Assembly intends to promote, a way of living for all Angolans. Therefore, transforming the society into a better project of inclusion and social justice.
Delivering her speech, Carolina Cerqueira noted that the main mission of the MPs is to deepen democracy in the exercise of citizenship, civil and social rights, to strengthening national cohesion, seeking to understand adverse positions, respecting different opinions.
“We must be the social basis for the tireless pursuit of dialogue and conciliation and the peaceful resolution of conflicts”, she stressed.
The leader urged the National Assembly members to guide their actions, whether in the Parliament in other areas of political and social activity, based on
ethics and institutional values.
The Angolan people, she said, with their tenacity and tireless efforts, have followed a path of admirable overcoming and determination, hence the imperious need that the acts and deliberations of parliamentarians be up to merits of the people.
Urging MPs to continue raising the flag of integrity and dedication, Carolina Cerqueira mentioned the need for everyone to play a crucial role in this melody (nation) that resonates in every corner of the country.
“May we meet the challenges with the resilience that characterises us, honouring the trust placed in us with unrelenting commitment. With this, I want to appeal that in the next legislative year, we work even more in an environment of democratic alliance to meet the common good of all Angolans,” she said. VM/TED/NIC
