Luanda - Angolan head of state João Lourenço condemned Sunday assault on democracy in Brazil after supporters of far-right former President Jair Bolsonaro invaded the country's Congress, presidential palace and Supreme Court.
In a statement posted on the Presidency’s Official Facebook page, João Lourenço strongly condemned the anti-democratic acts against the institutions that symbolise Brazilian democracy.
“We deem these demonstrations regrettable and represent a high degree of intolerance that is incompatible with the rules of the democratic game, in which the results legitimised by the people’s vote must be recognised and accepted by all”, the Angolan statesman added.
According to the Angolan Head of State, the recent Brazilian elections were globally recognised as free, fair and transparent, therefore, it makes no sense to voice such demands.
As CPLP President and Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço is convinced that the Brazilian Government will exercise its authority and restore democratic order in the country as soon as possible.
The supporters of the former president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, stormed the Congress, the presidential palace and the Supreme Court on Sunday.
