Harare - The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, ended his official visit to Zimbabwe on Sunday afternoon, where he participated in the work of the 44th ordinary SADC summit.
João Lourenço ended his programme of activities in Harare with a visit to the construction project of the Museum of African Liberation (MLA) and the SADC Monument and Liberation Square in Harare.
The occasion also served to witness the official handover of the land to the African Knowledge Institute (INSTAK), as the entity responsible for the project, and the launch of the construction works.
The delivery of the space took place through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Knowledge Institute.
The document describes the areas of mutual cooperation and diplomatic support in the construction, including the contribution of archival materials for exhibition at the Museum.
The MLA is located in a space of 103 hectares, known as the City of Liberation, whose construction has already begun.
Liberation City is a sprawling plot of land situated seven kilometres southwest of Zimbabwe's capital, along the bustling Samora Machel Avenue, which honours the founder and first President of Mozambique.
Described as a 'new city within the city of Harare', it will house the Liberation Museum as the main attraction in addition to a five-star hotel and leisure, theme and animal parks, as well as several monuments.
The City is designed to be a family attraction for local, regional and international tourists who will enjoy historical, heritage, recreational, commercial and entertainment facilities to be established in the new space. IZ/ART/DOJ
