Luanda - The Minister of Territory Administration, Dionísio da Fonseca, clarified Friday in Luanda that the draft law for the awarding of medals for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of national independence gives the President of the Republic the power to award medals and honorary titles to any entity.
Speaking to the press at the National Assembly, the Minister said that for this reason, the information in the public arena, according to which the government intends to exclude personalities who should receive the Commemorative Medal of the 50th Anniversary of National Independence, is false.
Dionísio da Fonseca added that with the final vote in plenary next week, the Head of State will be able to award medals to personalities, public and private institutions that have contributed to the development of the country.
He said that no money or other benefits are planned, only a medal and a diploma.
The National Independence Commemorative Medal consists of three classes minted in gold: the Honor Class, the Independence and Peace Class, and the Development Class.
The Medal of Honor is awarded to Heads of State, Heads of Government and other high dignitaries, national or foreign, who have made a particularly significant contribution to the independence of the Republic of Angola, in order to achieve peace and national development.
The Independence and Peace Prize is awarded to national or foreign entities that have distinguished themselves in the struggle for national independence and the achievement of peace.
The Development Prize is awarded to national or foreign entities that have made a significant contribution to national development in political, social, economic and other areas considered relevant, in accordance with the provisions of the law. LDN/VIC/TED/AMP
