Luanda - The Head of State, João Lourenço, Thursday expressed his dismay at the deaths of dozens of young Congolese people on Monday night, in Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of Congo.
In a message addressed to his Congolese counterpart, Denis Sassou Nguesso, to which ANGOP had access, João Lourenço expressed solidarity with the tragic event that killed a significant number of young people in Brazzaville during a Congolese army recruitment drive.
"I share, through Your Excellency, the pain of the families of the deceased, to whom I address, on behalf of the Government and on my own name, our most heartfelt condolences," says the message.
The tragedy occurred during a stampede at the Stade Michel d'Ornano stadium in Brazzaville, where recruitment for the Congolese Armed Forces was to take place.
Figures from the Congolese authorities show that around 37 young people died.
