Luanda - President João Lourenço praised on Saturday the progress of the works of the Pedro Maria Tonha "Pedalé" Hospital Complex and the rehabilitation and expansion of the Américo Boavida Hospital, in Luanda.
The information was given by the minister of Health, Sílvia Lutukuta, at the end of the inspection visit by the President of the Republic of the rehabilitation and expansion works of the Américo Boavida Hospital, the Burn Hospital in the Kilamba satellite town, and of the Pedro Maria Tonha "Pedalé" Hospital Complex, in the municipality of Samba.
"The President of the Republic was satisfied with the progress of the works. At the beginning, we had some impasses with the Américo Boavida Hospital, but the situation was resolved, we have the financing issue well assured and the infrastructure is on the right track", the minister said.
President João Lourenço noted on Saturday the level of execution of the works of the future Pedro Maria Tonha "Pedalé" Hospital Complex, which is being equipped with modern and high-precision technology for the diagnosis and treatment of highly complex diseases in the country.
With an installed capacity of 145 beds, the hospital will have therapy, oncology, radiotherapy, radiosurgery, brachytherapy and chemotherapy services.
Located in Morro Bento area, in Luanda, the hospital occupies an area of 32,000 square meters and the main building is spread over three floors, with a total area of 29,062 square meters.
The unit also has 36 outpatient consultation rooms, 16 examination rooms, 36 hemodialysis chairs, two radiotherapy and radiosurgery treatment rooms, two delivery rooms, an intermediate care unit with capacity for 16 beds, 5 labs, a robotic surgery training center and 2 Particle Accelerators.
With a regional dimension, the hospital will have a 100-room hotel and a residential building with 20 two-bed apartments.
The Hospital Complex will also have Nuclear Medicine, a Histocompatibility Lab (to verify compatibility between organ donors and recipients, in cases of transplants), Neurosciences and Orthopedics.
The services to be provided by the future hospital unit include Cervicofacial Surgery, Interventional Neuroradiology, Hepato-Bilio-Pancreatic Surgery, selected Maternal and Child Care and differentiated specialized training.
This Hospital Complex has been under the responsibility of the Ministry of Health since July 2020. The value of the contract signed in August 2024 with the contractor Wado is estimated at USD 67mln.
The project aims to materialize the Executive's principle of expanding the construction of the public hospital network to ensure better medical and drug care for the population.
In Dec 2019, the Head of the Executive Branch signed the Decree creating and approving the organic statute of the General Maria Tonha "Pedalé" Hospital.
