Luanda - President João Lourenço paid tribute, on Saturday (22), to retired General Alberto Correia Neto, former Chief of the General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), who died on the 11th of this month in Spain, victim of illness.

At the FAA Headquarters, accompanied by the First Lady, Ana Dias Lourenço, the Head of State laid a wreath of flowers, bowed before the urn and comforted the family before signing the book of condolences.

In the book, the Head of State wrote that the deceased was an honest man, who dedicated his entire life to serving the interests of the Angolan Homeland.

He recalled that before Independence, he was imprisoned in the dungeons of Tarrafal, in Cape Verde, for his actions with clandestine groups fighting against the Portuguese colonial presence.

The President also wrote that his dynamism in serving the Angolan people led him to participate in political, military and diplomatic fronts, where he zealously carried out his highest functions in the extinct FAPLA (People's Armed Forces for the Liberation of Angola), the FAA and Angolan diplomacy.

“We bow before his memory, expressing our condolences to the bereaved family, to all friends of his long and dignified life”, President João Lourenço said.
