Luanda –Angolan president João Lourenço reiterated Saturday in Luanda, his country’s willingness to continue implementing joint projects with common advantages to strengthen friendly bonds between Angolans and Turkish people.
In a message addressed to his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, on the occasion of the commemoration of the first centenary of the founding of Türkiye on October 29, the Angolan statesman said the accomplishment of joint projects would bring tangible benefits to both peoples.
The Angolan president praised the path Türkiye has followed over the last century, in which it has always played a central role in resolving economic and security issues in the region it is a part of, as a result of the robust development achieved in various fields, including science, trade and industry.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries date back to 1980, with cooperation agreements based in the air transport, defence, trade, investment protection, oil, mining, agriculture and renewable energy, fisheries, education, science and technology, oil and gas and industry sectors.
Available data records that turnover between Angola and Turkey in 2021 was about 170 million US dollars.
The nation exports wheat, machines, household appliances, hospital supplies, among others to Angola, while the Southern African nation exports wood, iron and aluminum scrap.
Political and diplomatic relations were strengthened in 2008 with bilateral cooperation, the year in which the Trade, Economic and Technical Co-operation Agreement was signed in Ankara.
Diplomatic relations were cemented with the opening of the Turkish embassy in Angola in 2010, followed by Angola’s embassy in 2011. VM/MRA/AMP
