Luanda - The President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, returned to the country after attending the investiture ceremony of his Rwandan counterpart, Paul Kagame, which took place Sunday, in Kigali.
At the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, in Luanda, the President received welcome greetings from the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa.
The Angolan statesman witnessed the ceremony in the company of more than 20 African heads of state, as well as some representatives of international organizations, among other individuals.
Before the swearing-in ceremony, João Lourenço and Paul Kagame had a meeting, during which they addressed issues related to the peace and security consolidation process in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
As a result of the mediation efforts of the Angolan President, as African Union (AU) Champion for Peace and Reconciliation, Angola witnessed, on July 30 of this year, a ceasefire agreement between Rwanda and DRC that focuses on the eastern Congolese region.
Paul Kagame, born on October 23, 1957, won the July presidential elections, with 99% of the votes, securing his fourth term.
The ceremony was marked by compliance with protocol rules, a parade of defense and security forces, as well as cultural activities.
Paul Kagame became President of Rwanda in 2000, elected by Parliament, after the resignation of the then Head of State, Pasteur Bizimungu, which was followed by four other elections by universal suffrage. AFL/ART/DOJ
