Luanda - The Head of State, João Lourenço, returned to Luanda on Thursday from Spain, where he attended the Global Conference on the Impact of Vaccination, held from 13 to 15 June.

At the 4 de Fevereiro international airport, the Angolan Head of State received welcome greetings from the Vice President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa and government officials.

In Madrid, capital of Spain, President João Lourenço was awarded a book entitled "The Art of Saving Life" in recognition of his efforts in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the ceremony, João Lourenço thanked the support of the partners, among them the COVAX Initiative, Gavi, World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), as well as the Spanish government, for the success of the vaccination programme against Covid-19.

While in the city of Madrid, the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, and the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, assessed the level of cooperation and friendship between the two countries regarding the current state of bilateral relations in different areas.

João Lourenço´s presence in Spain was due to an invitation from Global Alliance for Vaccines (GAVI) and the Spanish Government, bearing in mind his commitment to Covid-19 vaccination in Africa

Among other entities, the Global Conference on the Impact of Vaccination was attended by representatives of multilateral organizations, governments, civil society, companies and universities.

The event assessed the impact achieved by GAVI (an initiative of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) from January 2021 until now, a period in which the initiative faced the double challenge of supporting, with its partners, routine immunization and responding to the needs of Covid-19.
