Luanda – Angola ́s Head of State, João Lourenço on Tuesday in Luanda received a message from his counterpart from the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Brahim Ghali, which is focused on strengthening relations between the two countries.
The message was presented by the special envoy, Saharawi statesman's advisor Mohamed Salem Ould Salek.
At the end of the audience, he told the press that both countries have developed historic relations in favour of both peoples, as well as of the African peoples.
He said he spoke to João Lourenço about the message from “his brother”, the President Brahim Ghali, regarding the vision that Angola will continue to support other countries and play a leading role linked to the liberation of Africa.
With a surface area of 266,000 square kilometres, the Sahrawi Arab Republic is a territory in northern Africa, bordered to the north by Morocco, to the east by Algeria, to the east and south by Mauritania and to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, where it shares a maritime border with the Spanish autonomous region of the Canary Islands.
The country, whose population is estimated at over 500,000, claims sovereignty over the territory occupied by the Kingdom of Morocco more than 40 years ago, shortly after Spain's withdrawal.
