Luanda – Angolan president João Lourenço on Wednesday received an invitation to visit Côte d'Ivoire, as part of the two countries’ aim to strengthen cooperation.
The invitation was formalized by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and African Integration and Ivoiriens Abroad, Leon Adom Kacou Houadja, during an audience granted to him by the Angolan Head of State.
Speaking to the press, the Ivorian minister said the Angolan president was due to visit the country, which didn't happen, and that a trip is therefore being planned for the near future.
The Ivorian minister added that he is currently working with the Angolan foreign minister to ensure that the visit takes place in the next few days and that a work on the legal documents is being carried out to be signed during the meeting between the two heads of state.
Regional issues and international politics are also on the cooperation agenda.
Leon Adom Kacou Houadja said President Alassane Ouattara was enthusiastic about the level of cooperation between the two countries and hoped that it would increase.
The minister highlighted the position that the two countries occupy Angola in Southern Africa and Côte d'Ivoire in West Africa, and the role they can play in the African continent.
Signing of agreements
Angola and Côte d’Ivoire signed several instruments Wednesday to strengthen cooperation in various areas.
The protocol is expected to raise the level of relations in the Interior, Territorial Administration, Tourism, Telecommunications, Information Technology and Media, Health, Culture, Environment, Higher Education and Education sectors.
Signed during the 1st session of the Bilateral Cooperation Commission between Angola and Cote d’Ivoire, the meeting assessed the projects underway between the two countries and reviewed the agreements in force and the constraints to materialize the commitments made between the parties.
The Angolan Minister for Foreign Affairs, Tete António, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Ivorian Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, Léon Kacou Adom were the signatories.
